Cheap t5 vs DIY Halide
Should be a quick project but I wanted to ask a few questions here first.
I have a 36 gallon aquarium. I currently have two of these setups. http://www.aquaticlife.com/t5ho_dual/index.html 36" Two of them hooked together. Decent light but I hate the upkeep I have to do to this fixture to keep it looking and performing well. To get decent growth I have to have the lights 4 inches from tank. The reflectors look decent but dont perform well. Needless to say I want something new. 3 hours to clean salt creep is not fun. So I picked up a pair of 175w x2 Metal Halide from a friend. My question is will one 175w be good enough to maintain lps/sps and a clam. I plan on making the fixture in the next few days. I plan on only using one of the lights if possible both of them are currently wired together. Am I going to get better light penetration with less watts and a halide then I would with the 4-t5 setup. Can I use just one of them. Wiring diagram for metal halide setup. http://www.goodmart.com/pdfs/univ/M175ML5AC3M.pdf Will it be more light then the t5ho setup. Is 350w of metal halide lighting to much for my little 36 gallon. Thanks for any input. Tank when first setup Currently
