Need help with reef octopus BH-2000 skimmer
Getting frustrated with my first skimmer. I have it all set up per the lame instructions and after filling the chamber with 8" of water, it won't pump. I plug the pump in and wait for the water to rise or something to happen. I do have the air line closed but the pump just makes a "chugging noise" and nothing happens. A few air bubbles come up and the pump never draws water. What am I doing wrong or is the pump bad?

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I have the same model skimmer that you have. Did you figure out the problem to yours?

well you need the air line open thats for sure. then make sure it is sumbmersed in the "recommended" volume of water and see what happens. Also you need to turn the valve shut more probably so less water exits the exit tube and that should raise the water level inside the skimmer.
