Overflow Box Problem

My buddy built a overflow box. We are using a 3/4 bulkhead on the box. It is not syphoning enough water to keep up with the pump. What are some ideas to fix this. We are debating making a new box with a bigger syphoning section. Attached are some pictures to look at. We are using a Mag drive 7 pump. We could put a ball valve on the pump but i really am against that. We are going to try today putting another syphoning tube in the overflow to see it will keep up.
Thanks

In reality you have two options. Build a larger box that will carry more water with a larger drain of install a smaller pump.

You can throttle the pump back with a valve, however, as I suspect you know that's hard on the pump long term and not recommended.

Good luck with your mod.

FWIW - IMO, drain size should be no smaller that 1 1/2" in all but the smallest of tanks. Also - not only does it do NO HARM WHATSOEVER to put in a ball or gate valve to temper the output from the pump, it will actually use LESS electricity. It is no different than increasing the height of the return.
