I wouldnt , I clean my Warner marine h2 collection cup once a week and the lid is always dirty from the force on the foam to the collection cup, I could just imagine if that cup was not there???

The used Remora HOB I bought was missing it's lid (of course the seller neglected to metion this until I went to pick it up). Anyway.. I got it at a bargain.

I purchased some acrylic from the hardware store and cut it to size in a rectangular shape. I then took some airline tube, cut it to length and superglued it to the inside of this 'makeshift cover'. The tubing goes on the inner edge of this cover.. so when the cover is on the skimmer, the airline tube hugs the inner rim of the skimmer cup.

Hopefully that made sense. It was quite easy to build. Only cost a few bucks for the acrylic, and I had some tubing lying around.

It doesn't need to be airtight. You probably wouldn't want it to be. It is just a cover to keep the gunk in when it foams up.
