Need Help

My buddy and I came to find his fox face stuck on the bottom of his powerhead. Looking at him it he looks fine on one side but pretty ragged on the other. Some of the yellow on his body seems to be gone and his eye is bulging. What should I do to help him recuperate? He doesnt have a QT tank and the only other tank he has is maybe 5-10 gallons but a filter that has been running fresh water for the last year. What do we do? We dont want this fish to die!!!!!!

What ever you can. use the 5-10 gallon tank with no flow minus the filter. Running it with fresh water for a year wont matter. you need to min the stress as much as possible. keep the lights off of the tank also and give him a couple of pieces of PVC to hide in.

I'd say get a 10 gallon tank, they're pretty cheap and some pvc elbows from home depot and put in some melafix marine to help him heal in the QT. keep lights off to help him de-stress

He doesnt look to bad. What else is in the tank. IF anyone starts picking on him or he is not able to feed you will have to get him out.

What about some anti-bacteria stuff just to help protect against infection?

Mine did that... 2 days later he died..

If there is no QT tank available, I would reduce the flow as much as possible, just so the surface is agitated for gas exchange. Try to reduce the stress for him as much as possible. He probably won't eat because he's all stressed out tonight, but definitely try to get him some vitamin soaked food ASAP.

keep your lights out for a couple of days than put the blue atinics on for a couple of days to reduce stress.

Well thank god Petco is open late. Went and bought a 10 gallon tank and the melafix. Hopefully this guy is going to be ok. I have him in a room that isnt used too often so the lights in the room will be off for most of the time. Now I guess we wait

You may want to consider why the fish was stuck to the powerhead in the first place. A healthy fish should be able to swim away from a powerhead.

As soon as his stress lessens make sure to feed him several times a day.

I had picked up a powder brown and it had ich i had it in a qt tank and fed several times a day both mysis and brine along with glarlic enriched nori and in a week he healed and left him in qt for 3 more weeks and he is fine now color came back on the side that he was scratching so bad it was white.... If the stress is removed and they are fed heavily they are remarkably hardy.

The powerhead had no filter on it for some reason. Filter was floating but I still dont know why he was stuck. He's going stuck on the intake for the filter as well before

This morning he is still alive but seems very stressed. Sitting behind his hiding spot camouflaged with his fins up. Going to try and feed him a little later on and see if he goes for it

Hey guys quick question. The fox is very active this morning but very pale in color. I tried to feed him seaweed on a clip but he ignored it. Tried some flake and ignored it. Do you think besides the melafix that I should add some stress coat? Just want some opinions

pallor is camo. He may go total camo. If he won't eat nori, try frozen mysis or Formula Two. Fish often don't take to nori right off, and if nori was what he was supposed to have been eating, then he may have actually not been eating, ergo weakness. That's one bennie of a qt tank; you definitely know if they're not eating well. Few rabbits will turn down frozen mysis or dried krill.

Just bought frozen mysis. So we'll see if goes for that. Just waiting for it to thaw out.

Thaw one cube at a time in a little dish of tank water. One cube is enough for about 4 small fishes.
