Plusrite Bulbs.....Borosilicate Glass?
Does anyone know if the outer casing on Plusrite SE metal halide bulbs are made of borosilicate glass?
From what I can gather, the product descriptions referring to an "unprotected arc" and "use in enclosed fixtures only" have to do with the fact that MH bulbs contain mercury, so they should be used in enclosed fixtures, i.e., it doesn't have anything to do with the amount of UV protection Plusrite bulbs offer. If Plusrite bulbs are made of borosilicate glass, they should be just as safe (UV-wise) as other aquarium MH bulbs.....so are they? Last edited by pbnj; 03/11/2011 at 04:39 PM. |

I have been using Plusrite for a few years. Never had a problem. The DE bulbs need to be in a enclosed uv protected lens.
