I've had SPS brown out for no other reason than apparent stress. Keep your calcium and alkalinity up, keep your water changes frequent, keep your skimmer running and make sure you have enough flow and light and it'll color up again.

If it is moving towards brown I would try more light (move it up) or less nutrients in the water. If it is moving towards white I would try less light (move it down).

They do - but they must be properly acclimated to it.

My green birdnest browned out and stayed that way. I'll see some sparkle of green show once and a while, but its mostly brown all the time. It grows like mad, but won't color up.

could be due to the spectrum of the LEDs that you have.

Could be any number of things such as salinity/temp swings, high nutrient levels/low nutrient levels, high/low levels of light. Start with anything you may have changed within a few weeks before the problem.

Typically if you see browning it's either high nutrient levels or low light. If the color is bleaching it's usually high light or low nutrient levels or parameter swings.

As for the light. Yes, you do need a lot of light, but that is "a lot" compared to PC lighting or crappy reflectors. When you start getting into powerful metal halide or high end t5 fixtures, depending on the tank size and depth, you can have too much light. For example, under my ati sunpower I can't place any coral more than half way in the tank without colors fading. Even the most light demanding corals I have do fine on the sand bed without browning, in fact my zoas have to go through a long light acclimation period on the sand bed depending on who's tank they came from.

salinity 1.024-1.025, temp 26.7-27.3

Depending on the fixture, that's probably a lot of light. Move it down to where it was when it was under MH.

do you have somthing adding cal mag p04? how do you never test for that? its so important to sps. p04 could be the reason you bn is browning out. It could not have enough light i mean look, it was under a 250 watt mh and now its under olny 4 t5 i bet thats not enough light.

well the monti can take higher p04 and less light than the BN. So if the water goes out of wack the BN will show it first.

my friend suggested since its growing and the polyps are extending well
why not wait for it to acclimate to my lighting
