QT for mandarine?
I know mandarins tend to be more disease resistant than other fish but my question is, how can you properly QT them when they require loads of pods? Would it be better to just add them to the display tank right away?

Most frankly do that. But be VERY careful about source: see my thread about False Sense of Security, where we talk about dealers. The alternative is a cycled qt with cheato moss.

you can qt anything.
its just what you use to treat for preventing flukes and paracites. i would say yes. just based off "what if" that alone should have everyone QT thier fish in my opinion. i dont think manderines do well with copper. other treat ments would be ok IMO. i could be wrong

Seriously. Unless you can provide pods in the quarantine tank. And if you have a captive-bred variety available that takes commercial food, get it instead of a wild one that needs pods. Jeff |

The problem is, you can qt them with a cycled tank and preferably a large fuge, BUT---if you ever have to treat them, the treatments will kill the only thing they eat, copper kills THEM, and they don't do well with hypo either.
Nature gave them a major slime coat, because they are sandbed creatures that may frequently come in contact with the parasite: as long as nothing [such as low alkalinity] damages their coat, they'll generally not be the fish with ich.

I can't exactly tell from your other thread, but it looks like you started cycling your tank on March 12? And from your thread in the fish forum you added the mandarin today? Do I have that right? Maybe I missed something-
Edit: It looked like the 12th but later I see you said the cycle started March 1.
