drying LR
has anyone dried live rock, pressure washed and reseeded it again? how long does it take, how much work is it, is it hard to get rid of the dead micro organisms in the rock?

When I took down my tank I just drain the water, pulled the rock and let it sit out on the deck in Reef Crystals salt buckets to dry. Then I lidded them. When I brought them out I just gave them a fairly quick rinse under running water in the bath tub and threw them in the rubbermaid tub to cycle
That's all.

I bleached about 50LBS of LR once before as I had a huge out brake of just about everything (i gave the tank to my mother and left it at her house. she took the lights off the timer and left them all all the time).
Basically It took 1 week to bleach the rock 1 week in my garage to "dry" 2 weeks under the sun to burn off the rest of the bleach on the rocks 1 week under water to make sure i could cleanse anything that might have been soaked by the rock I took a 30 gallon tub with some LR and put the dead rock in it for 2 weeks to see if i could get anything on the rocks (nothing) I started to see coralline algae growth on those rocks probably 3 4 months after I finished my cleaning process. |
