Help with noisy tank setup and equipment.

So two things with my new setup:

1) My Mag7 return pump vibrates and this produces a loud rattling noise.

2) My internal overflow produces a loud sucking noise every time it drains into the sump. It does this in what seems to be 5-7 second intervals as the water fills and drains.

Anyone know how to lessen the noise pollution? Any suggestions on how to reduce the rattling and vibration issue with the Mag pump, maybe suggest a rubber material i can place between the pump and glass bottom of sump?

And any suggestions with the overflow sucking noise?

I'd really appreciate any feedback, thanks!

I have heard of using mouse pads but I do not know how safe they are so check on that. The other option would be to sit the pump on a ziploc bag with some sand in it.

I'm thinking you need a mechanism for air to vent from your drain line. How are your standpipes in your overflow plumbed?

The mag 7 is a submersible pump, do you have a rubber hose connecting it to the plumbing, the hose will absorb a lot of the vibration. (I have a mag18 that I had to do the same thing with)
as far as the noisy return, might I suggest the gurggle buster

Yes indeed. And you can make the overflow totally silent (once you install a gurgle buster) by hanging plastic ziploc bags on the inside of your overflow so the water trickles rather than falls.

If it is a durso drain, just drill the hole on top of the durso alittle bigger, The reef ready tanks such as aga and perfecto's vent holes are too small, therefore creating that load sucking and gurgling sound. Don't know why these manufacturers can't design a quiet system that does not need to be modified. As for your pump, just cut a piece of filter foam to sit underneath. Hope this helps, it worked for me.

Thanks for the responses! My set up actually incorporates something similar. The only thing is, I drilled my hole a tiny bit too big for the tubing to be able to adjust and quiet the noise. I'm currently looking for tubing with a slightly bigger diameter so I can resolve my problem. But, last night I played with the length of the tubing and now my overflow is pretty darn quiet, yay! What I ended up doing was placing the tubing in an angle as to seal of my slightly bigger drilled hole.

Any one know where I can get a slightly bigger diameter tubing?

Thanks! I actually have something like this on my actual set up. The hole where the clear tubing is attached through can be adjusted by pulling up or pushing down, which with some adjustment, quiets down the gurgling. My dilemma was, I actually drilled the hose just a tiny bit bigger than the clear tubing (I guess my hand wasn't steady and the drill bit moved around a little much during the process). This resulted in the clear tubing to not be fitted snug in the hole.

But I definitely need to find a solution to the vibrating return pump issue, it can be really annoying haha!

The Mag 7 has a large foot right....find yourself some suction cups or rubber stock and fasten them to the bottom of the pump. After that, make sure that the pump isn't resting against the glass or connected to rigid plumbing.
