How much Live Rock?

I need to know how much live rock i should get to cycle in my 75 gallon setup.

I was thinking of starting with 20 pounds of Live rock and 55 pounds of base.

If I were to do this how long would the cycle be?..

Should i do something different? I'll take any suggestions thanks !

That sounds like a good start. I would wait about a week for the cycle. It might be sooner you just need to test the water everyday, that will tell you for sure when its done with the cycle.

75lbs is a good start; better to start with the minimum, play with it, then hunt for other pieces to play specific rolls after building the initial structure.

I've got no clue what cycle time looks like for seeding with x amount of rock bearing nitrifying bacteria in SW. Test though, and test your test kit via calibration solutions; they're easy to mix up. An hour or two of extra work and a few dollars for test kits will save you money over expensive mistakes.

Thumbs up Sand?

I like a DSB 3@40# would make a nice sandbed and get some seeded sand from a fellow reefer.Aragonite reef sand the grain size you like the best. The Fiji pink is pretty too!!!

I'm guessing 3 inches and 40 pounds will be enough?

3 to 4 inchs deep should be plenty and it will look just right. Definitely go with live aragronite. It should also help your cycle along. Get some sand from another tank too, that might help the cycle also.

Are you asking about getting sand from an established tank to speed the cycle?

If you are, get 1 cup. That should be plenty of bacteria on it.

If you go to the home page here. You can find the calculator on the right side to determine your sand bed depth and how much sand you need.

Depends on how much ammonia you have right now. Is it declining? What was your ammonia spike?
