Just lost an acro frag...

...in less than a few hours. There are two on one plug. the other seems to be fine. Water checks out ok ( Ca, Alk, Phos, Amm, Nitrite, Nitrate).

the tank had been neglected and I did raise the Ca from about 360 to 420 in one dose. The next day (yesterday), I raised Alk from 8 to 11 in one dose.

Could either of these have been the cause?

More than likely it was the fast Alk swing. Nothing wrong with 8. Natural seawater is 7.

Could just be RTN sometimes it just happens for no reason. I have had some really nice acros die in a day or two as well it is so frustrating. Now if I ever see signs of RTN I frag the coral into small peices to try to save some which usually works for parts of it but it is sad nonetheless. Just do some regular water changes and hope it was a fluke!

Did the tissue kind of die off or peel away slowly at all?

Thanks for the replies...

Yeah it seems that the tissue just sloughed off and blew away in the current...started from the bottom up. There is one lone polyp remaining at the distal tip.
