Great skimmer. Takes a lot of crap out of the water. Only problem the older pumps use to have problems restarting not sure if the new pumps are any better tho.

I had a a HOB octopus a while back. Skimmer worked great but the nonexistant instructions made the initial startup a major pain.

I had the same problem, but once I got it set up, man did it ever work! I think you would be hard pressed to find as good a skimmer for such a good price. I am sure they exist, but I will stick with the Octopus from now on.

Try posting what you have with your set-up and what you want it to do on this thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1589426 You’ll get some really good feedback. I was looking at the XS 200, but due to its shallow sump requirements it wasn't the best for me. I went with the Aquamaxx AM200.

Had to fit in a 29" tall cabinet and I wanted as much water in the sump as I could get, The Aquamaxx sits in 8-10" of water and it will still be on a stand.

I have a reefocto X 160 on my 150g right now, a tad undersize, but still works great.
I will be bumping to the 200 soon, saw one on Marine depot w/ gate valve(that takes care of depth issues) for like $324
I can't recall anything neg on these.

I'm also happy with my OCTx-200 on my 125. Dido on poor set-up instructions.

The one negative about Octopus skimmers is that they use metric plumbing parts. It's just something to be aware of if you're planning on modding the skimmer. Apart from that - I love my HOB Octopus.
