Wth

For the past few week i have been reading and researching on starting a salt water tank but I'm at the point were I'm ready to through I. The towel before I even start. It's just to confusing of a project and the post and articles make it seem like you have to be a biologist to complete one. If theres any one who can think of an easy way to start a FO tank your knowledge and ideas on how and what i would need for my 76 gallon tank would be very helpful. Thanx

good live rock. i learned the hard way. started with base rock and waited a long time to wait till ready.

Gee,don't get discouraged so quickly.
It's really not rocket science.Just get some good books about starting out in the hobby.
I read Bob Fenner's book The Conscientious Marine Aquarist when I first started out.
Sometime RC can be pretty confusing because there's so much input from so many different levels.Starting out with a FOWLR (fish only with live rock) tank is a good way to get into learning how to keep water parameters on track.

We can step-by-step you through the process if you will do one very simple thing: ASK here before you do something. A 75 is a great size tank. If you'll take advice to save you trouble, you need a nice 30 gallon sump (Eshopps makes a good one)...a submersible pump, a Mag 12 or thereabouts, a Jager heater scaled for a 75, an Aqua C 120 skimmer, 70 pounds of aragonite medium grade dry sand, 70 lbs dry holey limestone rock, 5 lbs live rock, and a light kit: I'd recommend reef-capable T5's with a moon-light attachment (provides an hour of blue twilight); I'd add a refractometer (tests salinity), test strips for ammonia/nitrate; and an alkalinity test, plus some spare buckets (polystyrene, white only). Add rock, add sand, add water, add live rock to top of stack, and wait 8 weeks. After that, you're up and running, coral-capable, plenty of tank for small fish, and you should be good.

Salinity 1.024-6; alkalinity 8.3-9.3 on KH scale; calcium 420; magnesium 1300, temp 78-80, nitrate .2. Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny, royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.

+1 Those stickies were such a huge help for me when I started a few years back. Just take your time, and have some patience. Also, don't get discouraged if you make a mistake, everyone in this hobby has made a mistake a time or two. Learn from the mistake and move on. Good luck!

You can cut down a lot of the frustration by walking into your local fish store (LFS) with a blank check and deep pockets.

You might also want to look up some beginner marine aquarium books.

'The New Marine Aquarium' by Mike Paletta is exactly what the OP needs. $20 or so if I remember right. It's the best entry-level book out there.
