JBJ Auto top off questions

Just got the ATO and will be putting storage tank in the basement (right underneath the tank) I have a Mag 3 pump that has a lift of 10feet. This is more than enough to get to tank. I was told that if your lift is more then what I need, the water will come out in greater amounts and will be bad. Is this true? Should I put the water from the storage tank directly into the refuge or the overflow? Also I have RO/DI water... should I use a horizontal plastic storage tank or a 32 gallon trash can with lid? Any help would be great
