Diatom bloom?
I went to the keys and got some coral from the ocean from the shore... I bleached them and let them sit in the sun for about a week and half. I watered them and gave a good spray almost every day. I also soaked them in ro-di water with some instant ocean to i guess cure them for a bit because they had dead stuff still on them. I didnt want to take any chances.
I purchased about 25 pounds of live rock from a buddy of mine who broke down his friends tank. I immediatly put it in my new tank that has the dead rock from the keys in it. The dead rock had been in the tank for about a week already. All levels checked out good (ph 1.025, phosphates 0, nitrates 0, and calcium was about 460-480 because i added this solution to increase it). My tank has been cycling for 4 days with the live rock and the lights on about 8 hours. I have the skimmer running and collecting some junk already. To my amazement it already has a huge diatom bloom. Is it common to have a diatom bloom this early? Did the rock i got from the keys cause this bloom even though I bleached the rocks? |
