I'm running an ATI Sunpower 6x54w on a 90 gallon tank and its been great. This fixture is built like a beast, but if you have the extra cash, the powermodule is a good upgrade from the sunpower.
The T5 fixtures give you the option to switch bulbs around until you get the colour and PAR readings you like. The price is a bit steep, but not for what you're getting. I've been running mine for over a year with no complaints. I almost went with a NEP, thankfully I spent double the price and got the ATI. |

ATI's are the BEST T5 fixture on the market, hands down.
The Powermodule is a great fixture but not really an upgrade from the Sunpower. You will see less than a 5% increase in PAR between the two, but you will see a 50% price increase. Get the 6x54w for your tank and don't look back. It will throw out some serious light so acclimate your corals properly.

I run a powermodule and these things are a beast, they can bleach your corals easily specially if you are coming from 175w MH. T5s in general will save some energy, but the colors in your corals will be slightly different. i.e. My green monti cap with purple rim had always have a really deep purple rim when I was running metal halides, as soon as I started running T5’s that went away and I haven’t been able to get it back.
To answer your questions, yes they are worth it, well built and ready to go. I also run a TEK which I moded to make it almost as good as an ATI Sunpower, added some controllable fans, acrylic shield, modify the reflector to have holes in the cold spot of the bulbs, etc. The materials to modify it were not that expensive so I saved a good amount of money since a bought the TEK used, but my time is worth a lot (I work a lot so I have very little free time, and I get pay decently per hour) so I believe that’s where I didn’t save anything. |
