Looking for a good link or information on what exactly this unit will do?

The one found here is a great unit.
Basically it is a chamber the holds GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide, aka Phosphate Remover) and Carbon (removes a variety of water pollutants) Fed from a Maxi-jet 1200, it takes the water from your sump and runs it through each chamber then returns the water back to your sump. It helps polishes your water of phosphates and impurities. It's not a replacement for good reef keeping practices like water changes and RO/DI water, but more like an extra step past all that to really take care of anything left in the water column.

Is this something you would recommend when planning your first tank because i am assuming that you have to install this when you first do the drilling of your tank and setting up your sump because you can't really take apart the plumbing once the tank is up and running.

Nope, you can add this at any point. No rush...
No drilling required either just toss the little maxi-jet pump in your sump and connect it to the one side of the reactor, the other side will have a tube that goes back into the sump. Super simple but no need to have till at least a couple months after the tank has been cycled.

so you would say this is something that I should hold off on until the tank is already running and if I have a problem down the road then I can add this?

I'd look at getting 2 single reactors rather than the dual reactor. That way you can control flow to each one separately.

It's a really nice unit. I wish I would have bought one when I first set up my tank as I would not have had the amount of hair algae that I had. Once I installed it though my hair algae was gone within a week! definitely a nice addition to a tank especially if you want to keep your phosphates low.

wow that link was really helpful. Thanks for posting that. So I know this is a stupid question, but what do you put into the two different canisters? Carbon in one?

Yupp, yupp, and yupp!
The idea of using two reactors is also helpful because of being able to control the output of each reactor separately, I will leave the debate about the flow rates through each media up to others since I have no facts to offer. The down side would be to have to buy two pumps, one for each reactor. Also depending on your return pump, having a "T" will reduce the flow through your main display. If you feel you have extra power that you can spare, then by all means "T" away! It will also save electricity not having extra pumps plugged in. (every penny counts)

It's pretty simple really. I left room at the end of the terminated pipe for addition of another reactor/calcium reactor etc etc. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1303936283.499776.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
