I had 3 blue/green chromis in my 210g with 5 blue reef chromis. The two groups stayed to themselves. They didnt show any aggression towards each other.

Alot of folks say the blue reef chromis is more delicate than the blue/green chromis and harder to keep. I had good luck with the blue reef chromis and prefer them over the blue/green chromis.

I just looked them up I don't really like them

So the green and blue chromis are the same?
Just some look more one color then the other?

Chromis likely won't school. They tend to just widdle themselves down to one through aggression.

Do a search. Only a fool learns from his own mistakes...

It really depends on how much they are fed and how big the tank is. Some people with big tanks have great success with chromis.

I've had a shoal (small school) of 7 chromis viridis for about 6 months now. I started with 9. Overall, they stay in a small group. I've heard of people who start with 10 and have 2 within a month. I guess my tank is the exception to the norm.

I don't think having only 2-3 will help with aggression issues. I would get however many you want and is appropriate for you tank.

Chromis usually end up in odd numbers and people have been very successful with 3 but make sure you get them all the same size and start off with at least 3. I started off with 2 and was hoping to get more within the week but the bigger chromis stressed out the little one and thats it never seen it since.

Same experience here. I used to have 7 green chromis, now I'm down to 3. These have been together for a few months, though. So perhaps you can try 3.
I'm also planning to get 3 additional blue reef chromis because I like the color. I'll let you know if the two groups will shoal.

A 30l won't be enough for a group. I could see aggression being an issue there. With that said my group of 7 blue green chromis have been together for a couple years

Blue reef and green chromis are two different fishes with somewhat different needs. Both are planktivores like Anthias, the the blue reef gets larger and is found in loose aggregations compared to the green. Greens are a better bet for schooling in aquaria, as they commonly school densely in association with coral heads.

These two species are also found in different oceans (green Indopacific, blue Caribbean), so I wouldn't expect them to school together.

I kept 1 for a while and he seriously never left my pair of clowns side. Even after the move to the 180, he and the clowns spent the first few days together. Once I added 4 more buddies, they now all school together for the most part.

Gobies? There's a lot out there that don't require much space.

Fish school as a matter of protection in a large environment. A 30 g tank with only chromis in it isn't going to cause a schooling reaction.

I've had three C. viridis for about three months now. They all started about 3/4" in size. Two have definitely grown - about 1", the third is roughly the same size. When the tank is calm they all swim separately. Periodically the little one is chased by both big ones. Also the big ones chase each other and sometimes do the lockjaw thing to establish who is dominant.

When I'm doing something in the tank - w/c, blowing off the rock, etc. all three school up and behave just as nice as can be to each other.

I'm guessing the little one will disappear one of these days. Then, who knows...

Cool fish to watch dart around the tank.

Dave
