Mantisville Build
Well time for me to finally show you what I have talked about for so long. I have started Mantisville and thought I would share with you all. I would like to say thanks to Koshmar for 2 of my kids and to the rest I have talked with here. You will see some stuff familiar and I have asked permission from the originator so do not think they are mine. ehh MantisO_0
First of the build is the frame of the condos. These were built by myself and a neighbor Steve Lerner. These things are strong enough to support 5 times what will be on them. I hit them with 2 coats KILLS Premium and will be finishing them with the same color white that the house molding is. Unpainted:
Primed and read for paint:

I guess I don't get what I'm looking at. Is that a frame to hold a bunch of separate individual tanks, or 1 large custom piece that has been subdivided?

Well some time has passed and the build has jumped. Here are a couple shots of Mantisville. There are 6 ten gallon tanks and 2 55 gallon tanks all plumbed into a 75 gallon sump. There is a snapper hybrid runnioing 2400 GPH to feed water through the system. I am also running a Nextreef SMR-1 media reactor with Vertex bio pellets, and a Nextreef SR1 for carbon. Skimmer for now is a older Trigger Ststems run by a SICCE 5 pump.
Thanks to Mantis-O for his permission to copy his idea for my Maculata tank ( top 55 ) More to come later: Snapper Pump
6 Tens and Sump
2 55's

Nope, I got a killer deal on what I got. I just hope its not too fine for them or I might be pulling it. Then what to do with 200 pounds of sand. LOL
More pics to come of rock work once I am happy. This was a real chore to build and had a few hair pullers but so far I am happy. I have a ball valve on each tank so I can adjust flow. But as it sits now with the small wheel in my pump I can not get any more flow in the the tanks. I do not want too much through the sump so I will let the flow be low through the sump and add pumps for movement in the tanks. |

Here are the 2 55's. The top one will be maculatta town. it looks like 3 areas but really is 2. Thanks Mantis-O
The area in the middle is one then the 2 on left and right are tied together through passage along front of tank. The bottom will house 2 N. wennerae in the left 2 chambers and a O. scyllarus in the right one.

Nice looking setup. Are you planning on lighting, or just using the room lighting?

Have not nailed down lighting yet. Was thinking about dimable LED's over each that way I can tun up or down as per animal requirement. I have one that does not light light and the others that do. If I do LED, its because I want just enough to get the shimmmer and no more.
The look as it is now is only part way done. Plan on framing it all so it looks like a wall and will be adding controller so I can play with it via the web. I still need to add the ATO and WC tank under the 55's. Thanks |

Wow that is really impressive. Quite the mantis setup you got there.
I'm certainly jealous. I wish I had a house so I could do just that. Darn 1 bedroom apartment

I'm doing two separate cube tanks for my mantis. They fit well in the room and should keep me satisfied for some time. I figure I'll want a new tank by the time my buddy's P. Ciliata gets big enough to take down some fish. Gives me 6 months to figure out where I can squeeze a 20. Enough thread hijack, back to Mantisville!
