Sand in my fuge?
After moving everything from my 29 to the 90 gal, I have 20 to 30 lbs of live sand left.
Should I do a DSB in my fuge? Size of the fuge is 9x12x11 so a 5" deep sand bed won't be a problem. Currently my fuge has some rubble, chaeto and I just poured 1/2 bottle of pods for the Mandarin that will come in a couple of months. |

Definitely not going to hurt anything. More filtration.

I have about two inches in my fuge. Not a DSB at all but it was what I had left over. Hasn't hurt anything.

I would want to rinse and clean the old sand before placing into the new system. Lots of detritus and toxic gases probably accumulated throughout all the years. Better to start off somewhat fresh when it comes to sand imo. Having said that, a DSB would work well in the refugium. The only other recommendation I'd give here is to place the DSB in a tupperware-like container, so that cleaning and maintenance is easier.
