Maxijet 1200 on BRS Carbon GFO Reactor

I have a BRS Dual Carbon GFO Reactor. I am using the Maxijet 1200 pump. However, when I throttle down the valve to get the recommended gentle tumble for the GFO, the maxijet 1200 becomes very loud. There is a loud vibrating noise from the impeller, and I don't know how to fix it. It is fine when I have the valve 100% open, but if I even dial it down a little, then the pump makes a lot of noise. The pump is brand new and clean, and so is the reactor. The pump is mounted on suction cups on the bottom of the sump, and there is no vibration noise from the sump. The noise is definitely rattling from the impeller when I close the valve to limit flow. BRS recommends the Maxijet 1200 for this reactor, but is it too strong?

Anyone else having this issue? Do you know how to correct? Thank you for any help.

This happened to me when I first set up my dual reactor, I replaced the pump (same pump the mj1200) and no problems since. I have recently changed set ups and dont use the mj anymore, the reactor is plumped into a manifold on my return line.

I've heard of this happening with the newer designs, and I have had it happed with an older model. I had to put a Y and another ball valve on the the outlet to allow some of the water to flow out and i can play with the levels to relive the back pressure. Not ideal, but it works.

Thanks. I figured the only fix would be to relieve some of the back pressure. I'll try to put a Y or T and another ball valve from the outlet of the pump to direct pressure elsewhere. I hope it works for me too.

i just use a maxi 600 on a single and still have to throttle it back. if i go more than a 1/3 closed it starts to make a little noise(its def the older model). you might be able to use a 600 if your not plumbing the reactors to high above the pump
