Rose Anemone

I have a question. I am interested in buying a rose anemone but have noticed some have bubble tip and others seem to have long tentacles. Are they the same? Or are they two different species of rose anemones??

Thanks,
Jimmy

No one has truly figured out what causes them to have bubbles or not. Some believe (( hasn't been proven )) that the deep water ones have longer tentacles and the shallow water ones bubble more.

Back when I kept E. Quadricolors I tried;

High flow/low flow
High light/low light
Direct feedings/no direct feedings
Hosting clowns/not hosting clowns
Etc.

The end result was the same, some had them and some didn't -- even ones that were clones of each other and right next to each other. So, if you can figure it out and reproduce it regularly....

I like the ones with the long tentacles better but the ones I mostly see for example at my LFS seem to all be bubble tips. Also I currently supplement and test for Alk, Calcium, and Mag. I was hoping to have SPS, is this something I should still keep up with rose anemones or do they require different supplements or supplements at all? And I'm sorry just to make sure I understood you correctly they are the same species?

Thanks,
Jimmy

At this point they are the same species -- not to say that sometime down the road they will find out that they are different ones.

Nothing different will needed to be dosed, just keep your parameters in check. Also, E. Quads are rock dwelling, and can/will sting SPS, so give them room.

Thanks, I actually don't have any corals in this tank yet. But I was considering just going with a species tank and having all rose anemones only.
