How much of the PH value is allowed to vary in a day ?
Hi RC ,,
.. Recently I have removed my Glass Canopy and I am getting more than 1.7 gallon evapration a day .. earlier it used to be .5 gall. So now my ATO works more frequently .. With the controller I am seeing my PH varing from 8.15 to 8.27 in a day .. when ever my ATO gets activated I see the spiks in PH from 8.15 to some times almost to 8.27 so .. The ATO will switch of if the PH is greater than 2.5 .. My question is Is this much variation accaptable ? Or does this cause stress ?? What are my options .. I can reduce the amount of KALK added to the freshwater !.. Thx you All.. |

8.15 to 8.27 is not really any swing at all. That is a miniscule amount.

Thats not much.. Have you looked into topping off with kalk? Im not an expert in the subject. I belive some people do just that to help with PH and KH.

I think the ph variation is fine in the range reported assuming the measurements are accurate.
However, the lime water ( kalk) dose is being tripled plus(.5 to 1.7 gallons per day) and this will effect alk and calicum that could be less than optimal as well as ph. Whether those are good or bad effects is hard to know without knowing how big the tank is and how much kalk at what saturation is being dosed at one time as well as over the course of a day.
