Canopy

What do I need to take into account if I decided to use a canopy for my next tank? How's it different than an open top tank? Etc.. Just let me know your experiences thanks

You will need to have a place for the heat to escape. Have computer fans in there to blow in there to keep it cool. Have a way to block the light when you open the lid so it does blind everyone.

Make sure that whatever canopy you decide on, you have enough room to work over your tank. The canopy I had (don't have it anymore) for my 90 gal did not allow me enough room to work when opened. In order for me to work above my tank, I had to remove the canopy and a canopy for a 90 gal can be awfully heavy. Good luck.

First make sure that you have plenty of air circulation around the LED. Is this light dimmable? Do you already have corals in the tank?

I am just doing a little research on a future tank which will be a 40b more than likely, I havent decided on what type lighting i want so y'all can chime in on that too. I am having stand/canopy built by a guy, im just gonna give him a rough design of what i want it to do or whatever , so what design works the best with canopies? Stands? If i do get leds they will be dimmable over a tank with LPS & Softies if that makes a difference.

A slight rule of thumb T-5's can be held 4 to 6'' off the water MH about 9'' I have seen LED's especially good ones about a foot over the water.
