Moving question
I tried this in the Reef Discussion forum.
It's finally time to move the tanks. This will take place next week. It's a 30 mile move. I am taking down the 20 and placing it's inhabitants in the 29 bowfront until I start the 125. I will place fish, coral, and some of the live rock from both tanks into the 29. The remainder of the rock will be placed in a plastic container with sw and a powerhead and begin "cooking". I have around 60-70 lbs of dry aragonite sand in an ice chest. It was taken from an old tank, rinsed twice in fresh water (not ro/di), and laid on a tarp to dry in the sun. My question is this, should I try to use the DSB that's in the 29 now, trying my best not to disturb it much during the move, or should I toss it and use some of the dry sand I have? I guess option #3 would be to buy new sand? I'm thinking when I pull the rock out I'm gonna stir up some crud.

I'd buy new sand.

why are you 'cooking' the LR from your tank?
You can rinse the old sand and re-use it

Some flexline and a return pump at around 400 gph and your good to go provided your using a hang on back skimmer or doing regular water changes. The live rock would be the filter and IMO is the BEST idea. |
