Quite One pumps are junk!!!!!!

I have 2 2100s and one 4000. All are loud and will not restart if you unplug and plug back in. I had one 2100 for about 2 years and though it got noisy fast it worked for 2 years. I bought one more 2100 and one 4000 because I got a good deal on them and I might as well have thrown away my money.

Now I need a new pump that is rated for 500 gph or more. Any suggestions?

Thanks

My return is an Eheim 1260 and it is rated at 634gph. This is a seriously heavy duty pump. The build and weight is impressive. I've had it running continuously for over a year and I have heard of people saying that they have had theirs for over 20 years! They are expensive but don't pay over $160 for it. The 1262 is rated for even more, like 900 I think.

Agreed. I had a Quiet One 1200 that was noisy and then broke shortly after I bought it. Replaced it with a 7-year old maxi-jet and couldn't have been happier. But that's 300 gph range. Now I'm rocking a Tunze Silence 600ish gph @ $85, wonderful pump.

Can't go wrong with an Eheim.

YRMV. I had a Quiet One 2200 that was dead silent and always started up. I right now have a Mag 7 that is a POS. Its loud, and will not start up half of the time. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Quiet One 4000.

Sorry, but I have a quiet one 1200 that has worked flawlessly 24/7 for three years...it's not silent, but is no louder than any other pump I have had...

sounds like it can be a crap shoot with any pump. Guess I will try either the mag 7 or ehiem 1260.

I have seen both ends, quiet ones that are noisey crap and some that are quiet and work for years without issue, personally though I go with mag pumps on my own tanks. IMO they are the most consistent, I've never had one be totally trouble free over years of use but neither have I had one poop out on me either, mostly it has been impellers and such. I also tend to upgrade every 3 years so I've never burnt one out

I have run a quiet one 3000 for over two years with little problems if I take the impellar out about every 3-4 months and clean it off really well. As calcium deposits build up on the impellar shaft becomes a little bit out of alignment and therefore will not restart. I keep a spare impellar to change out and it works great.

Again I think it is a good low to mid level priced return pump.

I have an ocean runner 3500 which I am quite happy with. A bit bulky though.
If I had the extra cash though I would choose an eheim 1262.

I had 2 QuietOne 4000's. One ran in the sump with a battery backup and it never got turned off. It ran, and still runs fine (on a tank I sold). The other was on a chiller and every time the power went off (lots of thunderstorms here) it would make a lot of noise and struggle to restart. I hated it. So with a 50-50 record for me, I switched when I set up a new tank. My Reeflo developed a small leak, but the mfg replaced it, no questions asked.

glad I saw this thread, i am in need of a return pump for my sump and need something that can provide me with 300 gph with an 7' head height and noticed the quiet one 3000 for cheap price and had a max HH of 10.5'... i guess i'll just pay the extra money for a mag 7

I had a problem once with a pump, so I unscrewed the front cap and cleaned out the impellar with about a 1/2 cup of vinegar and tap water (I don't make RO/DI, so I use tap water). I've heard that's a good idea every 2-3 months. If you clean all the junk out, you are less likely to have trouble with the pump. I have a Quiet One 4000 and, knock on wood, it's worked well for about 6 months.

I have a mag 5 and mag 9.5 and both have done pretty well and fairly quiet.

I did have a problem with the mag 5 at one time because I was sucking up a lot of sugar sized sand in my freshwater tank doing water changes and it didn't want to start up. I took it apart (which was very easy), and cleaned it/ messed with it a little bit, then it started right up.

The mags run off of "magnets" and don't have a motor. The electricty makes the magnets rotate creating power. So.... Really can't go too wrong.

Easy to clean, cheap, working pretty well for me.

If I bought a new pump, I would go with this one though!! Been eyeing it for a while!
