unknown anemone hitchhiker
Can anybody please help identify this anemone, he is currently living in my 35 Gallon sump tank and i think he may be a Majano....Hes light brown tipped, when retracted he is pure white and the size of an eyeball, when extended his base stretches out by 2 inch and his head is again about 2inch diameter. His tentacles stretch about an inch outwards and they have a very slight bubble tip. He is very active and quite happy but if hes harmless i would like to put him in my main tank, also under blue light he is Fluro Green, any help much appreciated, thank you.(I have looked online and i think its is one of the following, Majano,Apastisia,Beadlet?)

I had one that looks like that in my DT. That was 6-8 weeks ago. Now I have 3 in the same spot. I didn't want to kill it unless it was really going to be a pest. I'm 90% sure it, like your's, is a majano. And yes, they multiply as fast as aptasia and can be just as hard to get rid of. Mine dies today!

It's not aiptasia. I believe it's majano. Since it's in your sump and easily accessible, I would take it out before it spreads.

just to add, this anemone has been in the sump for about 3 years, in darkness mostly as well. I got the tank from my sister who has been running it for about 5 years but upon relocating decided to give it to me, it has been set up for 4 months now and i have new tank syndrome as well, my question is because it hasn't reproduced yet is it gonna be that bad? read many mixed reviews on majanos and some say they reproduce quickly, others that they haven't in years, i dont want to kill it for no reason, and its fluro under blue light...would you risk putting it in your display tank or just stab it with some joels juice??

I'm not an expert at anenomes, but it makes sense that it hasn't reproduced since it's been in the dark. Apparently your tank has enough nutrients to keep it alive without light. Assuming it is a majano, I would venture to say that if you put it in the display with light and the level of nutrients that you must have, that it would go to town pretty quickly. But if you like the thing (majanos can be quite pretty) and want to take the risk of having LOTS of them, keep it.

yes my nutrients are quite high at the moment as recently moved the aquarium, nitrates at 15 ppm and random algae blooms, increased clean up crew, increased water changes added eheim external filter with Kent nitrate sponge and phousguard but to no avail, if anything nitrates increasing. Feeding less and reduced light period to, but still my substrate is covered in diatoms every morning, thinking my metal halide might have shifted spectrum as well so gonna change the bulb to be sure, got to invest in a sea hare i think, as for majano been reading some scary things about them so i think he will have to die, thanks for every1s input, if anybody has advice on my algae problem feel free to comment, thanks Dan.
