RO/DI Unit Recommendations

I wanted to just do a search on this, since I'm sure this has been discussed many times. But when I do a search on "RO/DI units" it says "Sorry - No matches" - so I'll just start a new thread.

Please tell me the RO/DI unit you use and the pros and cons. I'm looking to buy one and not all the websites have reviews posted. Thanks in advance.

One of the things i wished i knew when I bought mine was the 75 gpd have a lot higher rejection rate than the 100 gpd. So what that means is your di resin will last longer.

Do you mean the resin will last longer in the 75 or the 100? Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I don't know the science behind the RO/DI units. Thanks.

The resin will last longer in the 75. The 100 gpd i think have like 90% rejection rate which means ten percent of the contaminants will get through, then your relying on your di resin to remove the rest.
The 75 gpd have a 98% percent rejection rate which means only 2% of contaminants get through and your di resin only has to remove 2%. I think the units themselves are pretty universal.

The resin will last longer with the 75gpd membranes since they have a higher rejection rate. The membrane will remove more of the TDS and the resin will not have to. The 100 gpd have a 90% rejection rate and the 75 gpd are 98%. This is for Filmtec membranes.

I have a unit from Bulk Reef Supply. I'm very happy with the unit & the customer service. However, I've only heard good things about the sponsors on this forum (Buckeye Field Supply, The Filter Guys, etc.) & doubt you'd go wrong with any of them.

You can add a second membrane to any RO/DI unit, that will greatly reduce the amount of waste water produced.

I bought a 75 gpd (link below) with drinking water tank from BRS. Its very well built, uses high quality filters and was easy to install!

Bulk Reef Supply 5 stage plus unit all the way. Get in a BRS group but that happen here almost every week, and you can get the unit for under $200 including the double inline tds meter, pressure gadge, and various fitting for almost any hookup. Great system.

As per your question on the resin. The ro rembrane is rated at around 3 years. The filters are suggested to get yearly changout. The di material will vary widely depending on your source water, but expect somewhere from 500 to 1000 gallons put into the system (meaning not the clean output water).

Regarding BAMF's post. BRS has recently changed their group buy system so that it runs once a month, starting on the first Wednesday of the month.

Another thing to consider is the type of disinfectant used in your water supply system. Most municipalities use chlorine, but some use chloramine. You'll want to find out as you'll need different filters based upon the disinfectant.

How do you get in on the group discount? Is there a code?

I'm on well water, so no disinfectants here, but high TDS.

On well water you may want to use a 6 stage if you have very high tds this basically means a second di unit. BRS does sell a chloramine system as well.

When you are ready to buy I would suggest contacting Russ with BFS. He will answer any questions you have and will set you up with a really good RODI unite. I only say this because I have dealt with him and he is a really good guy. Good luck.

Another thing to watch out for with well water is high CO2 which will eat up DI resin very quickly.

+1 on BRS's 75 gpd 5 stage RO/DI system

Standard $160
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...rd-system.html

*PLUS* system for $40 more
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...us-system.html

I got the "plus" b/c it comes with pressure gauge (so i know what my water pressure coming in is as RO/DI units all work off pressure), flush kit (for cleaning) and dual TDS meter (this is very cool to see how high the TDS is coming in and a nice "0" on the way out :-)

HTH

This is a nice unit. Been using the 75gpd Typhoon for 6 years with the same membrane. I just added a second 75 gpd with a booster pump to get 150 gpd. Can't go wrong for that price!

I have the BRS 5 stage plus and I love it. Comes with a lot of stuff for the money. The pressure gauge and TDS meter are great, plus it comes with the flush kit.

I got mine from the filterguys. I found them to be very friendly, helpful and responsive. The system came with everything needed for a quick and easy setup.
