Reef Octopus SRO2000 vs XP2000

I have a 120 Gallon DT with a 40 Gallon Sump...
Im trying to upgrade my skimmer and am torn between these 2 skimmers...
They both have the same Pump, but the SRO is a Hybrid Cone where the XP is a Full Cone...

Any thoughts on which one works Better?
Also...the SRO runs about $360 and the XP runs about $445...

So is the difference in $$ worth it or not???

Tank is a Mixed Reef tank and im planning on adding more fish soon

Thanx

From what a few people have told me, it's not really worth the additional cost to get the full cone. Take it for what it's worth. I'm going with an SRO over the same size cone on my new 400 gallon setup.

I wrote to Reef Octopus when I was looking for a skimmer. This is an excerpt of the reply I received from Jeremy at Coralvue.

"The SRO line comes in two body types the Cone and the Hybrid. The cone offers a slight advantage over other body types due to its shape slows down the turbulence within the skimmer body and due to the less head pressure on the pump give the pump a slight performance advantage."

From this response I'd think you could save the money and be very happy with the hybrid body.

i went with the SRO o the cone also didn't thing it was worth the extra money. But both are great skimmers and you will be happy either way.

I may be missing something BUT pressure on the pump will be due to the water head. Water head refers to the physical height of water, not volume, so if the body of both skimmers is the same height (say 18") then the head will be exactly the same in both.

I did a lot of research on this before buying my SRO non-cone, and many people seem to think the SRO performs better than the XP. The water height is the same level, so it is the same head pressure. The cone has about the same footprint, but since it's a cone, it has less volume, so in theory the normal SRO would do a better job than the XP. Everything i've read suggests just getting the normal SRO, I'm certainly happy with my purchase of the normal one.

Yea, it is best to look cool....

HERE is a post from Jeremy here on their forum, that he prefers the traditional or hybrid as compared to the cone.

I went with two SRO's for those very reasons, a 1000 and 2000.
