Lighting setup

Hi, I am trying to get some info for setting up my lighting and how long I should run it. I talked with my LFS where I got the kit. He stated to me to start the lights out at 4hrs then slowly movie it up from there to prevent an alge bloom. I am wondering if that is right or wrong. Sorry see my setup below for information.

Has your tank cycled yet? If not you don't need to turn lights on at all, algae tends to grow quite quickly in this stage, so 4 hrs of light wouldn't be that bad if you want to go 6hrs even that would be ok, but keep in mind algae does require light, but then what good is a display tank with the lights off? Enjoy!

The whole 'slowly moving light times up" thingie like the LFS mentioned is good if you upgrade your lighting to somethig more intense, but for a brand spankin new system, eh, might slow down the algae bloom. I'm still cycling mine and my lights are on for far longer than that. As sporto0 so elegantly stated "what good is a display tank with the lights off" (less we're talking about nocturnal species :P)
