Thumbs up 400w MH safe for center glass brace?

I have a 180g Oceanic tank with a glass center brace. Is it safe to mount a 400 watt metal halide light 12 inches above the center?

I got an all glass top frame, and cut out the brace and top trim - replaced top trim so the problem goes away. If you leave it in with a light over you'll spend your life cleaning it, without even discussing how hot it will get...
