New reverse omosis RO/DI
Ok I got a brand new 6st RO/DI. All 10" housings. On the 1st stage i have 5m sed. 2st refillable charcoal canister. 3st 5m charcoal block. 4st 150gal. CSM mem. 5st and 6st are refillable color change DI canisters(not yet wetted or installed, housing full water only).
Ok so here is my Question on the 2nd stage the water around the outside of the refillable cartridge only fills about 3/4 the way to the top. It lowers to about a 1/4 full when I shut off the inlet valve to the system. Is this normal operation with refillable canisters in a RO System? Just seems to me that any air in the system is unwanted. I got three of these canisters from my seller all look exactly the same. except the one filled with charcoal vs Di resin. I am not ready to wet the di canisters just to see if they do the same thing. |

You can bleed the air out of it by unscrewing it slightly until water reaches the top...then screw it back on.

I'm not sure whether or not that truly matters since water flows through the resin bed from the bottom, the outside of the resin tubes don't need to be covered in water.
James may be right about the charcoal ones though... I don't think those are a 'flow through' container like the di resin's are. |

Yes you have them in the right order. Take the line out of the RO stage and run water through the carbon for a few minutes to rinse them and then hook back up to the membrane. Get the membrane wet and tilt it around and get all the air out. It might sputter for a little bit.
Your DI canisters may act like that and never fill all the way up and that is OK. The part with the resin will have water. It just has to do with the way they fill around the outside and out up the middle. Some kind of science-y pressure issue.

I have rinsed the charcoal good. I havent opened the membrane yet. I'am not really sure if I need RO water for a freshwater tank. isn't the iron, copper, and calcium better left in the water?
side Note: my tap water ph is extreemly high for breeding. |

Yes, for a freshwater fish tank, you should skip the RO. What I like to do is use the RODI for my reef and the waste water out of the membrane for my freshwater perch tank.
