maxijets?

I was just curious if anyone could tell me how good of a job maxijets work as a regular powerhead with the conversion parts installed.

I picked up a 400 today to use in my fuge and I am considering usung a 600 or a 900 as my primary powerhead when I set up my 15 gal nano algae/reef tank.

You'll get the full range of responce to this question, from MaxiJets are great to, I wouldn't use one if it was the last powerhead left on Earth. I used them in my old tank and they worked just fine. I did the conversion on one and it worked fine for years. I ran 4 of them on a RedSea wavemaker and they still ran fine. But I've woved on to a CL system, however I do have a MaxiJet in my quarantine tank. Good luck sorting out the replies.

Ron

Can't beat them....cheap, reliable, push a ton of water with the new prop kit, and last forever. Anybody who's been doing this long enough has a bucket of them and they all usually work.

Plus parts are easily available. Only drawbacks are noise and heat, and that's subjective to the individual.

I have one of the new ones with the mods and it worked great for mixing salt for awhile... but then it won't stay upright anymore! It loses the grip on the ball bearing and will not stay upright where you put it in very little time. It started doing this after 2 months. They are kind of noisy too. It does move some nice water, so if you can get it and not adjust it every again, it might work for you.

I think they're the best bang for the buck. I agree with Lynnmw that both the arm (glue it in place once you find where you need it) and the suction cups (replace with Magnet holder) will be long term problems. They are good pumps - I agree on the nosier side, but for $25, they can't be beat.

Yeah, they usually outlive the owner, like Aqua-Clear filters.
