Power head in a 36g??

Ok, sooo I have the return going to the back left and the overflow box on the back right. How much waterflow do I need? Should I put in a power head on the right side?

A good measuer is 20 times flow your tank size. 36 times 20 is 720 gallons per hour..

Even more flow if you plan on keeping SPS corals (40x). 20x is great for fish and most soft corals.

Definitely not as long as you aren't blowing your fish all over the place.

I'd look for a circulation pump in the 500gph area. The Aqueon ones are good quality, I have one and I've been happy with it. You could also get a Maxi-Jet 400, which comes with a kit to turn it into a circulator.

TO save cash and with no stock 15 to 20 times would be plenty. But as your tank matures and stock increases more flow would be needed..
