Coral banded shrimp (in any flavor) can take fish and other invertebrates.

Are you talking about the Golden coral banded shrimp that only gets 2"? If so, you shouldn't have any problems.

Golden coral banded shrimp

I had a blue (1 1/2" max) and loved it. It stayed in the bottom area of the tank and roomed with my Diamond Watchman and a redheaded goby in their shared burrow.

IMO, the difference is the size. Regular CBS get quite large (for an ornamental), and can be aggressive. The little ones are too small to be aggressive to anything larger than them LOL. I had mine in a 38. He stayed on the bottom 1/3 of the rock and the sand, the 5 peppermints stayed in the middle 1/3, and the cleaners stayed in the top 1/3. The only aggression I had was peppermints killing each other when they molted.

For some reason, the majority of people aren't aware that there are a few different kinds and not all of them get large. People also say they aren't cleaners, but my little blue cleaned my goby. Probably in exchange for sharing the burrow. I would love to get one again (this was years ago), but I have an orbic cardinal that would love to eat it and a pistol about the same size as the blue occupying the same territory. When the 140 goes up, I'll probably go for it again.

I didn't get the camera up in time to catch the cleaning on this one. Shrimp is the blue blur on the left. It was full grown, the goby wasn't its full size yet (not quite 5" at this point).

You can see the little spiral feather dusters on the rock in this pic for scale.

For 4 years I've had a pair of the small blue ones pictured in the above post in a 20 gal with sexy shrimp, bumblebee shrimp, periclimenes shrimp, tiny Trimma and Eviota gobies with no problems.

They do hide nearly all the time though.

I started with a pair too, but the female didn't make it through acclimation. They're perfect for a nano.

I have the smaller version that max's out at 2". Been a great addition but is rarely seen. Doesn't bother, or get bothered by the other shrimp or tank mates.
