Red face Gallon calculator?

Is there a gallon calculator so that I input the gallons, and width, then it tells me the height and length?

All the calculators I can find online input the length, width and height, then tell you the gallons....

Thanks!

I don't know about a calculator that does it that way, but if you can do a little math....

There are 231 cubic inches per gallon.

No because different size tanks can have the same amount of gallons for instance a 10"x10"x10" cube has the same amount of gallons as a 250"x2"x2 they're both 4.32 galons

10" X 10" X 10" = 1000 cubic inches
1000 cubic inches / 231 = 4.329 gallons.

250" X 2" X 2" = 1000 cubic inches
1000 cubic inches / 231 = 4.329 gallons.

The math isn't hard to figure out without a webpage to calculate it for you.

For the OP's needs:

Say you want 100 gallons. That's 23100 cubic inches. Say you want the width to be 50". SO 23100 / 50 = 462.

So your length times height has to be 462 in2.

You could use any two numbers that multiply together to get 462 for length and height with 50" wide and have 100 gallons.

To make it square, take the square root = 21.5.

So 100 ga should be 21.5 X 21.5 X 50.

Ahhh....ok...so do the math! LOL

I was hoping it was easier....I suck at math LOL

I guess I can also guesstimate, fidget with the numbers until the total gallon amount is achieved

Thanks!

You would be amazed how powerful a thing it is to have some basic math skills.

It is rather simple. You need to know two of the three dimensions of lenght, width or water depth in inches
Then take gallons, multiply it by 231. Divide that number by one of the dimensions you know and then divide it by the second dimension you know, the resulting number is the third dimension.
Say you want a rectangular aquarium that holds 100 gallons, you want it to be 48 inches long and 24 inches wide so. 100 x 231= 23,100 then 23,100 divided by 48 = 481.25 which divided by 24 = 20.05 then the water depth shall be basically 20 inches. Add about 1-1/2 inch for free space from the water surface to the top of the aquarium and it shall be 21.5 inches tall.

Why not tell us the gallons and the width you have in mind?

Also if you have an idea of the other two it wouldn't be too hard to provide a few examples.

You could also go to a tank website like glass cages and they have all of their tanks listed by l x w x h and gallons.
