Just ordered an Ehiem 1260 pump to drive my skimmer!

After a couple Quite One pumps and two MD7s - all of which got loud or did not work dependably - I am getting what is suppose to be the best. Hope this one works. The MD7s both worked dependably but got noisey inside of two weeks. Good rule in life is to get the best so you only buy it once.

Some people were having trouble with the stainless steel washers that come with the impeller shafts of those Ehiem pumps and switched them out for ceramic ones. They're expensive, but a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing the shaft itself. If you decide to go this route however, make sure you use the proper sized ceramic washer or, apparently, you still won't be solving the problem. I use the 8/32" size, by the way.
