Thumbs up Brown algea,

Hi guys i am new to marine aquariums so i am looking for advice ,my tanks has been set up for 5 wks now and water is stable ect and i have live coral and a couple of shrimps to start off with.I have noticed today a brown colouring on my white sand ,i think it is just algea am i right in thinking its time to start adding fish and snails and more clean up critters.

What do you have moving water in your tank? If you have algae problems with nothing but 2 shrimp adding fish and feeding them will just make it worse..Are you using RO/DI water?

sounds like it is time for your CUC. I dunno about fish yet, but some snails and hermits might be good at this point

Are you mixing your own water. If you do, use the tds meter to test your rodi water. It needs to read 0 on the meter. I think the problem is the water.

Welcome to RC. What you are seeing is a diatom bloom and it is normal for a new tank. If you have tested 0 on ammonia and nitrite then you should do a water change and then you can add a small cuc and your first (1) fish. Stock slowly and let the biological filtration of the tank adjust as you add more fish. How big is your tank?

+1 on diatom bloom,mine started also after week 5 and got it through few weeks!
