Ocean motion 4 way
Would a ocean motion 4 way be a good investment to put on a tank 72x27x27? I thought about puting a return in each corner of the tank. (to help out with the flow) Is there any draw backs to the 4 way? Thanks

I have an OM 4 way w/ sequence barracuda on my tank and love it. I have leg split into 2 returns each. 6 outlets on top with the 3 prong revolutions and 2 outlets near the bottom on the 2 back corners. Works great on my 110 DT without any other PH. The sequence pump has been running for 6 years without a hitch. Plus Paul from OM is awesome. Very helpful with plumbing design and troubleshooting, and always takes care of his customers. I have had a few issues that required me to replace parts on the OM and he has sent me parts for free, and charges minimal amounts on others. Best customer service I have ever dealt with!!

I have an OM4 on my 180g, just a bit smaller than yours. Do yourself a HUGE favor and go for the revolutions. I did 3 and have just a linelock nozzle at the right end. That sets up some current toward the left end where my main return is. I got mine used and it has not skipped a beat in over a year. I run mine with a Reeflo Blackfin 2400gph and I have to cut it back a little even with a bypass outlet. I also shut my OM4 and pump down 4 nights a week. The amount of completely random flow is just what I wanted, but I like a calm tank at night as well. Makes for easier spot feedings.

I also have one on a 180g SPS tank with reeflo hammerhead 5700gph. Love it, been working nonstop almost 3 years now. Don't like power heads everywhere in a big tank.

I ran an OM 4 way on mu tank with a barracuda pump for several years. After some time, the rotating drum wore a hole in the outter cover and leaked. It's not just used as a flow device. I removed the guts and sealed off the end so it's a single in, 4 out flow distributer. Just a FYI on longivity.

I do not want this tank closed loop so would this be OK? The tank is going to be just like a bean animal overflow.

Bruce,
If your OM4 isn't on a closed loop, how big a pump are you going to use? Normal sump flow is less than the total DT flow. Your's is a 200g tank? Anyway, then you will want somewhere between 2000gph up to 6000gph or more. Getting 2000gph through a BeanAnimal drain is going to take some doing! They normally do 600-1200gph. And 2000gph in your sump is going to be noisy. Are you going to have a refugium? Flow should be much less thru/over a refugium. You can do this several ways. Feed DT water at both ends of the sump and make the fuge end slower. Build in a 'bypass' sround or thru the fuge so the fuge itself has less flow. Why don't you want to do a CL? Do you have room for an external pump? You can always have 1 bigger hole drilled in the glass to feed the CL and still use the BeanAnimal for the sump. That's basically what I did. I have a 2" bulkhead in the DT just for the CL.

My OM4 is on a closed loop. I have no power heads. How would you do this without a closed loop.

That's my point. If you plan to feed it from the sump pump, and you could but, that's normally a much lower flow than you want in the DT. More flow in the sump can be done, but unless room for an external pump is a huge premium, why would you? You could even hang the CL pump off the stand above the sump. And you don't need a huge CL pump because there is almost zero head loss in the worst design. I have maybe a 6" head loss and used no elbows.

I will be using a dart for the return. I think I have decided to not use a OM4 now. I think I will use power heads to move the water now. Thank you Bruce.
