Skimmer Blues- any wisdom

I have had a new reef octopus nwb-110 up and running for 3 months and it has done a great job. Today I get home from the LFS and it is in bubble over drive. I turned down the valve for water height and next thing I know I have micro bubbles every where including the DT. So I figure skimmer needs a cleaning. I clean every thing as much as I can (even impeller and venturi assembly) I don't find any thing wrong. I put every thing back and it's not only micro bubble city but it doesn't seem to work like it did. I hop in the old truck, pump in hand, and exchange it at the LFS. Put the new one on and guess what

same poor performance and micro bubbles. Suggestions are needed. Thanks for reading.
Gotta add that I never had any bubble issue before today.

Try putting a sponge or filter floss around the skimmer outlet, wait a day or two then remove floss
