Using salifert test kits

I am currently using salifert test kits for ca,alk, and mag. It says "it says on all 3 kits to draw the last liquid (titration liquid) into the 1ml syringe, until the lower end of the black syringe part is at 1.00 ml mark". When I do this I usually get a gap of air between the liquid and black end of the syringe. When i pull until the lower black part of the syringe is at 1.00 ml, I only get .80 ml of liquid + whatever is in the plastic tip. Does that air gap compensate for the liquid in the tip? How much does the liquid go up to in your syringe?

If you read the directions they tell you this is normal and compensated for.
