Salifert ca test kit: air bubble

My syringe has a gap with air and I want to make sure that is normal. The directions mention that air may be in the syringe when using the "tip" peice

That is normal the syringe is good and it will not fill up to the 1ml. line. Should be about .8. There kits tell you that.

yeah that bugged me so bad when I first got the salifert kits. I must of emptied it and filled that thing like 10 times. It does say if you read really closely that there will be an air gap. it doesn't affect the test.

What you are really reading off the syringe isn't the volume in the syringe, it's the change in volume in the syringe. That's the amount you delivered to the sample. You can use any point on the plunger you like to set at the 1mL mark as long as you are able to read the barrel using the same point. I like to use the top of the black part because it's a little flatter than the bottom and makes seeing the number right easier.

But the point is, that it only matters how far you move the syringe, not really where you start or stop.

Salifert Cal. test step 4. Put the plastic tip firmly on the 1ml syringe. and draw into the syringe the CA-3 reagent till the lower end of the black part of the piston is exactly at the1.00 ml mark. There will be some air present just below the piston. This is the air which was present between the end of the plastic tip and the piston. This will not influence the test results.
