Just added what I call a Detritus Grinder

Just got a maxi-jet1200 and stuck a tube on the input to it would suck up the detritus in the back of my bare bottom tank. I am doing this for 2 reasons.

1. to get rid of the detritus sitting on the back of my tank.

2. to hopefully grind up the detritus, adding their nutrients back into the water column. My bare bottom has been running too clean. I had a skilter filter filtering out all the detritus everyday but I felt it was depleted my tank of any nutrients. Hopefully with this "grinder" I will keep nutrients in my tank.

Any input or experience would be appreciated. My tanks main problem seems to be lack of nutrients. All of my soft corals that were doing great have slowly shrunken away. Hopefully this will help keep my SPS feed. -Hitch

Interesting concept. You don't have any snails/hermits that could be sucked up do you?

I have a filter at the bottom that keeps small fish or any other animal out. I took it off a cheap Tetra skilter filter.
