with what's available right now i'd get 2 or 3 Aqua Illumination Sol Blues or 3 or 4 Maxspect Mazarras.
i lean AI.

next month improved AIs coming out and the Ecotech Radion too. the Radion is a little pricey for me.

also the new Ecoxotic Panorama will be out. a great light with customizable power and color. lke it a lot.

see my thread on it. good choices, all.

Ecoxotic makes some nice modular LED reasonably priced that are high quality. They are modular, great for under a hood.

Current USA makes more Modular reasonably priced LED for under hood use, but looks ok on a rimless as well.

Any more details on your exact tank?

The ecoxotics are coming out with more options. These are my choices for hoods.

Make sure you buy quality lights, the cheap china made crap dies out before the lights really get old then u end up buying another.

The mairneland LEDs are bad for reef. Bad look as well IMO. Expensive for nothing.

Wavepoint was going to release some, nothing new on it lately, and actually removed form their site. But they did look promising, i think too much competition and they took too long to come out.

If you are looking for hanging fixtures, there are a few great companies that make some, but they get very expensive for the non china crap ones. More options for hanging fixtures I think.

Ecoxotic again has some other fixtures and lamps that are very good and reasonably priced (not cheap, but not overpriced IMO)

Good luck, if you provide me with more detail on your setup (hood, reef?, coral type, type of fixture) I could make a more detailed recommendation if you want it. LEDs are the way to go, environmentally friendly and cost effective, look better, and easy to work with. All the pluses.

Not sure if two 12" would put out enough par for a 120?

Right now I have a sps dominant. I can go in hood more easily, my light is a ati 8 bulb fixture right now, but I miss the shimmer, and want to cut down electricity. The problem is my ati puts out awesome par, and my budgedt is around $1500, but preferably less if I can get quality.

Par is no problem for AI. they're very strong. most never even run them at 100percent cause they're so strong.

you could always start with 2 and add another. it would be for spread though, par is no prob.

the ATI is a great light though, so be sure you want to switch.

you should look at all the AI tanks on RC. i do all the time.

I was thinking of just adding a ecoxotic stunner strip, you all think it would add some shimmer?

i think the ATI would drown it out. if you want to add to the ATI wait for rtparty to answer. he's the expert on here. or post on the T5 thread for Grim Reefer , he's a T5 expert too. they'll tell you what to add.
