Fish husbandry

My tank is only 4 weeks old but during that 4 weeks I have done a tremendous amount reading and researching. I have been quiet alarmed by some of the reading I have done. Its interesting the number of people that will trade fish in at lfs for another type. It seems that some peoples attitudes are that fish are disposable. Aquariums are like a piece of art work on the wall. When It isn't cool or the in thing, lets trade it in. Would you trade your labradoodle in because its not the cool designer breed this year. I really like my tank and just put two clownfish in it. They have personalities just like dogs, cats, birds or other pets. We need start thinking of fish as more like pets and less like hobbies. It truly is startling how wild fish are caught and live rock is ripped from the reefs. When I bought my two clownfish, I was determined to only buy tank breed and raised fish. I feel good about my purchase and they seem happy in their new home. Hopefully as we go forward keeping fish and corals can become less of a burden on the environment. Sorry if this steps on any toes. I will get off of my soap box now.

Jim

good thoughts, jimbo. It seems like many often jump into this hobby out of excitement with out fully understanding the commitment they are making (or should be making...).
