Sand Question
I was at the beach today fishing and pondering my tank im building. I noticed that the sand at the beach and in the ocean im sure is not white like in our aquariums. Its tan. Where can I buy live sand or dry sand thats SAFE for my build that is simular to the color of sand at the beach?

my LFS sells tan sand dry in bulk. Bring it home, put it in the tank, add the water and white/blue lights, and it looks white.. I don't know if that's just the sand they sell or not, but just throwing out a warning that even if it looks tan when you buy it it may not look that way in the tank....

For dry sand, look at Reptilite. It's oolitic aragonite. Perfect, and relatively cheap.

It's probably legal to collect a little sand from the beach. I'd check to make sure first though. Just dry it out, and rinse it really really well, and you should be good to go. Just be sure to collect it from out near the water, and not up by any hotels, or places that may spray herbicides.

By no means am I saying I want to take sand from the beach. I dont believe i even asked about sand from the beach in this post other than the COLOR. I am only asking where I can BUY sand the same color of this to simulate a natural real enviroment in my tank. Beach sand is not an option and i will not be collecting sand from the beach.
