Question Ambient Temperature

Hi all, I need some advice about my new tank build.

I want to have a near silent reef, so I'd like to have the display tank in the living room with plumbing through a wall into my garage. The sump and all other filter equipment will be sitting in the garage. This is solve a lot of problems with respect noise. However, my biggest concern is that I live in Las Vegas and at least 3 month out of the year the garage ambient temperature will be around 100-110 in that garage. I planning on around a 100G display in the air-conditioned house with about 30G sump in the hot garage. I do plan on needing and using chiller for those months.

My Question: Is this wise or am I asking for big trouble for the sake of a "silent reef"??? Please advise. Thanks!

what is not silent about your current/past tanks?

there is no reason you cant plumb it with a bean style overflow system and have it be silent in your house...for a 30 gallon sump i wouldnt be bothered with all the extra plumbing etc to run it into the garage..a 30 will very easily fit under the tank...if anything pop a 1/4" hole through your wall for the skimmer airline to pass through, then you wont have to listen to the skimmer sucking air...

aside from that i would partition off the garage sump area, and vent it/ air condition it with the rest of the house..however like i said building a wall insulating it adding a door, adding vents etc...not worth it for a 30g sump...now if you put in a 100g sump with all your QT tanks and frag tanks, water storage etc, then it would be worth it to me...

If silence is a requirement, you have a reasonable plan. My wife requires silence so I have display tanks upstairs and sumps in the basement. There are values other than silence with this type of approach.

Excellent advice. Each of my sumps is 100 gallons with a 40 gallon refugium and frag tank.
