Interesting cycling picture
SO, been cycling my new tank for a couple of weeks. Noticed that the ammonia got up to .5 and then disappeared and started seeing nitrite but I wanted to see a bit more ammonia before I let it go. So i stuck a pantyhose bag with some shrimp inside in my sump. Thought it would make the removal easier. Took a look today and after 2 days in the system this picture is what I saw. Any reason that I need to remove them from the bag? Is this inhibiting the cycle in some way? Ammonia is up to 1 and steady so I assume not. Thought it was a cool thing to look at if nothing else....

Cool looking. I believe it is a bacteria or fungal growth mat. I would remove it.

You think it originated from the shrimp that were added? Something they brought in or something on the live sand or rock?

You can expect various bacteria blooms as the tank cycles and matures. The bacteria were already present in the tank, you just provided them with food. It's not a big deal, but something you don't want to spread.

That thing looks alien. I would swiftly remove it if it were in my tank. Weird!
