Getting my feet wet!
Well, trying not to do anything incredible stupid or costly.
Im setting up my 150 gal dt and 40 gal wet/dry filter converted to sump. 165 gal of ro/di lots of salt (instant Ocean) Well water with 207 ppm ph 7.6 (lots of co2) Di resin depleted after (200 gal) 1 aquac ev 180 with mag7 (planning on mag9???) temp! cheap enheim pump that I was just going to use for xfer/util doing circulation 4 now Need pump! Iwaki 40....(not sure about turnover) 3x4x??? Contact time in sump? Placed egg crate in bottom of tank(thankyou lowes) Seen suggestion here. rinsed sand...150 lb ...sigh...sugar sized...(made mistake of taking friends advice of skipping rinse step.) (cloud never disolved. Removed sand and rinsed) I would like to have a golbie! Ordered Pukani rock;probally not enough, but will start aqua scape when it arrives. Will seed with a few peices of lr from lfs. sg1.024 ph8.1 no3 0 no2 0 Made custom return that sits on back of tank with 4 3/4 flex returns. Im thinkiing I should have used 1/2 " man those 3/4 are big. pvc kept out of tank/water( no need to try and find black paint that is reef safe to hide pvc 2 1" overflow built in corners. Had noisy stand pipe(1" pipe with slits 1/3 the way through stagered) top of pipe above water. Sounded like bathtub drain. Built two quiet stand pipe (Durso) with 1 1/4 thinwall pvc, made cap where it would slip up and down to regulate air intake. works great. Need strainers for them(slip)???? 1" clear tuping for returns from bulkheads and water entering sump are next noise problem...???? Cycle not started .....???? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Newbie at the wheel....Ill keep reading...Thanks Reef Central!

Opened up Reef Central. Man this board has been slowly lately.
Decided to make a sandwich. I sure do love turkey. Saw that I had no bread. Had to go to the store. No parking anywhere. Had to park a mile away and walk. Bought the bread. $3.50/loaf? Really? Returned home. Made and ate the sandwich. Finally Reef Central had loaded. Read your post. |

Not sure how much advise I can give but hopefully more than a discussion about lunch. Not sure if you were kidding about the goby but think I read that they do not mix with egg crate. I think there is a calculator for turnover on the front page but sure someone will give you useful answers. MOST here are really helpful. The hard thing is remembering where what you though you read was to double check it. Those who go slow and read and heed seem to have the most success. Based on their posts. In any case good luck.

Some people put egg crate under rocks to give the rock something to "Hold onto". It makes the most sense in a bare bottom setup where there is no sand to hold the rocks in place.
That post was incredibly difficult to read. Looked like a twitter feed. |

Just curious why you didn't have any advice for the OP's Post? This type of thing should NOT be posted in this forum New to the Hobby. Post that here. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=74 We are here to help not make a bad impression!

Di resin depleted after (200 gal)
That's not that bad I'm sure you have a water softener. I have town water and lime is the issue. I may not get much more than that with the 5 stage RO/DI system I have.

Sorry for the difficulty of my orig post. Was trying to put as much info in as possible and keep it short. I hope the crate works out for this tank. Never used rock before kinda excited its will be here tomarrow. Im searching posts for peoples comments on using epoxy or pins....I was thinking that the crate would help hold things together and assist in stacking by making rocks less likey to shift. Thsnk you.
